Welcome to The Bold and the Ugly - a wondrous exploration of gift-giving, traditions and finding a loving (or not-so-loving) home for unwanted treasures.
The story began about one year ago. My sister was travelling overseas for a few weeks and to show her how much she'd missed out on back home I gifted her a particuarly hideous stein. It was replete with roughly painted pictures, chips and fading colours. This innocent act soon snowballed into a much larger competition extending throughout the family and even to many friends. And in this game, size really does matter.
So the rules. They're quite simple and are as follows:
1. The fugly (meaning particularly ugly for those not in Gen Y) presents must be on display in the house/room at all times.
2. The presents may only be given on special occassions (Birthdays, house-warmings, Christmas and Mother and Father's Day).
3. There's a price limit of $10.
4. You may only give someone one present per special occassion.
5. A trophy is awarded at the end of each calender year to the recipient of the fugliest present.
6. The trophy must also be on display for a full calender year (until it's awarded to the next person).
